Grenadine is by far the most common and versatile sweetener and flavoring in classic bar mixology. Grenadine derives its name from the French word for Pomegranate (Grenade); yet nowadays grenadine does not contain pomegranates. Grenadine is popular behind the bar because it imparts a pleasant red color and sweet, slightly tart taste to several very popular cocktails.
